Autumn styling in your home.
Autumn styling is without a doubt one of my favourite things to do. The shift from verdant greens to the comforting hues of old golds in nature resonates deeply with my interior design choices. Autumn isn't solely about pumpkin carving and apple picking—although those activities are delightful in their own right- there's a pure, uncomplicated delight in the act of kicking through dry leaves, each shade telling a story of the changing season. Collecting pine cones, a gift from the trees themselves, adds an organic touch to my decor and let's not forget the charm of wrapping up in cozy boots and scarves, bringing both warmth and style to the season's embrace.
When it comes to interior design, autumn offers a world of creativity. I find joy in crafting centrepieces using various vessels, from repurposed apple crates to vintage pots. The combination of pine cones, moss, and leaves provides a rustic and inviting touch to my dining room. This simple yet elegant addition brings the essence of autumn indoors, creating an atmosphere that perfectly complements the natural world outside, each element tells its own story, infusing my space with a sense of the season's beauty and transformation.
Table styling
A few simple pampas grasses can make an autumn statement on your dining table as you can see I have used a coffee pot in mustard yellow as the vessel in which to hold them. An autumn fox table runner from sophie allport a few seasons back has added texture to the wood table. Sophie has some beautiful ones this season too my favourite being this Acorn & Oaks table runner for £30. I've gone minimal with this tablescape using mainly yellows only adding a little fun quirk with the brown striped candy cane candles from H&M Home (£7.99 for a set of 2).
Warm, earthy colours
Now autumn styling doesn't have to be as maximalist as i said, it can start with just one cushion as below. Adding that orange hue can immediately prepare your house for the cooler crisp evenings that lie ahead, creating a sense of warmth akin to sharing smores around a campfire, then add a throw and you're on your way to creating a cozy space to enjoy the darker evenings.
The logs in the wicker basket also allude to the fact that we will be needing a sense of warmth soon with the approaching cold (although that is a false chimney breast so no fires here!) I will intertwine some fairy lights between the logs to create a warm glow. I prefer the ones with a power cable attached from Lights4fun
Table centre pieces
Autumn is one of the most beautiful seasons, a rich abundance of colour found in nature creates an inspiring aesthetic to emulate in your own home. It's a chance to blend the rich and inviting hues that nature generously offers, from warm reds to vibrant yellows. By incorporating elements like pumpkins, apples, and, of course, pine cones into your table centrepiece, you can seamlessly bring the outdoors indoors. The possibilities are endless, allowing for an array of variations tailored to your personal taste. Whether you prefer a rustic, nature-inspired look or something more modern and eclectic, autumn provides a vibrant canvas for your creativity, making every meal a warm and inviting experience
Door wreaths
When should you start making your home all cozy for autumn? Well, it depends on what floats your boat. Some start to dive into the whole decorating thing in the first two weeks of September, while others wait until the weather starts changing more autumnal. A good time to put up your door wreath and dress your indoor space is towards the end of September or early October.
Autumn door wreaths symbolize the changing of seasons and the cycle of life (hence why they are most often round) however these days you will see them in all shapes, colours and sizes
Once-over wreaths were mainly seen on doors during the Christmas period. But now, they've become a must-have for any chic front entrance. Yet, no rule says they can only grace front doors. An autumn wreath can spruce up just about any corner of your home! They can be used as a fancy table centrepiece or be hung on your favourite walls indoors too.
Nature at its best!
With such a splendid array of colours bestowed upon us by Mother Nature, why hold back? Right then, I'm all set to head off to the pumpkin field to personally handpick my very own treasures.
I hope this has inspired you to try out something new this autumn and remember it can start with just one cushion. If you're curious to know more about what i do , feel free to check out my Instagram account HERE.
