Window dressings

If there's one thing I've learned as an interior designer, it's that the right window dressings can transform a house into a home. Now I've been fortunate to have worked with Hillary's Blinds as one of their interior squad, giving me a special insight into the world of curtains, blinds, shutters and awnings. I had no idea as to the extent of the quality checks they do but more over the number of different fabrics they stock. They offer everything from chic blinds to elegant curtains li...

"Colour your world" Vibrant tips to brighten up your home.

I often get asked, "How do you know what colours to pull together when designing a room in your home?" My answer is simple: start with the colours you love. Surrounding yourself with your happy colours naturally creates a space that brings you joy. However, to take the guesswork out of the process, i always recommend using a colour wheel.  It's an invaluable tool that provides the confidence you need to make harmonious choices. After all,  selecting the right colours can be daunting - ...

A good nights sleep

Getting a good night's sleep is as crucial as coffee on a Monday morning! It's the secret sauce for a well-functioning brain and a chirpy mood. Think of it as your brain's beauty sleep - it repairs and refreshes, ensuring you wake up looking and feeling less like a zombie and more like a supermodel ready to face the day. It's like hitting the reset button on your brain, repairing the damage from the day's workload and getting you ready to tackle tomorrow's challenges with vigour. Plus, it's natur...

Updating your kitchen on a budget

After the wettest winter on record, i felt like spring had come and the house needed a refresh, especially in the kitchen/diner. As much as i would love a brand new kitchen that's not in the budget this year so as my gran would say "make do and mend". How do you do that i hear you ask? well, the power of paint darling! ...

Getting your garden ready for spring

The first cut of the year makes me happy but also holds a special significance as it's a crucial task not just aesthetically but also for promoting healthy growth. Trimming away winter growth encourages new shoots to emerge, allowing sunlight and nutrients to reach the roots. This initial grooming sets the tone for the season ahead, laying the foundation for a flourishing garden with life, colour, and the promise of abundance. A few tips for you is firstly to make sure the grass is dry or you ri...

Twelve days of Christmas

Christmas is undergoing quite the transformation in my home this year. Having two teenagers, we may have outgrown the days of adorable, wide-eyed anticipation of little ones asking when is Santa coming, but what we're gaining is just as incredible. My eldest son is home from university, and the excitement of having him here, is as good as when they were little, is truly the most precious gift I could ask for. The traditional Christmas feast I love to prepare is going to be even more special, kn...

What you don't want to know about turning 50!

They say 50 is the new 40 but let me tell you, hitting the big 5-0 is quite the shocker! It happened to me this past May, so I’m here to share my journey with you.As I cruised through my late 40s, I had this grand vision of all the amazing things I'd do once I hit the big 5-0. And to be honest, I did manage to tick off some fantastic experiences. There was that magical trip to Malaga with one of my best friends, a rare moment when I got to be just "Lyndsey" instead of "mam," wife, problem solv...

Autumn home styling

Autumn styling is without a doubt one of my favourite things to do. The shift from verdant greens to the comforting hues of old golds in nature resonates deeply with my interior design choices. Autumn isn't solely about pumpkin carving and apple picking—although those activities are delightful in their own right- there's a pure, uncomplicated delight in the act of kicking through dry leaves, each shade telling a story of the changing season. Collecting pine cones, a gift from the trees themsel...

Turning 50 ain't so bad!

As we grow older, we often find ourselves reflecting on the past and contemplating the future. Ive began to reassess my priorities and consider how I want to spend my time. Turning 50 is a significant milestone that marks a new chapter of my life. While I am known for my interior design work, I wanted to take this opportunity to shift focus and discuss something more personal: my lifestyle. For the past 19 years, I have devoted myself to being a mother, and it has been a rewarding and fulfilling ...

Ideal home show London 2023

This week was a busy one albeit great fun! I got all dressed up (well, as dressed up as I get - trainers and a tee) and headed down to London with my two lovely friends Lorraine from @willow&maine and Jules from @thehousethatworks for the Ideal Home Show. We took the red-eye down to Olympia and it was such a relief because going all the way to the Excel is such a pain. The show was fantastic, perfect for consumers with loads of fun things to see and do. We even checked out the champagne bar, ...

Spring Vibes

With the darker nights fading away and the sudden sprout of crocuses and daffodils everywhere I turn, I find myself thinking about updating my home for spring. There are many different and easy ways to inject some spring into your home, but here are my top five suggestions: Update your gallery wall by swapping out a few prints with spring-themed prints, such as blooms or brightly coloured wording.Change up your cushions. Put away those autumn and winter colours and bring out brighter or mor...

Living Room

This room has been this colour green now for well over a year which for me is quite the success story. I love green but with a north east facing living room, it can look colder on a dark day so that's why I went for a more muted green shade and paired it with greys and brown wood. In the evening make sure to have the correct ambient lighting to warm up the space for that more cozy feel. It's so important to know which way your room faces to help with your colour choice but at the end of the day,...

Welcoming Hallway

When we bought this house the first thing that struck me was the hallway, it was light and spacious although not to my taste I could see the potential. Now in my opinion the hallway is one of the most important rooms in your home as it's the first impression visitors get. Go bold with your front door as this helps your home stand out and adds a bit of fun to a bland exterior.Lighting is another important factor as it can elevate a space instantly have used these ghost lamp pendants here to creat...

Christmas is coming!

Tis the season for Christmas decorations! Now then who decorates their hallway? To be honest I never really did before Instagram but now it's a must. This was last year's hallway and as much as I loved it, it will be different this year. That tree will be in the kitchen/diner and the main tree of course in the living room by the bay window. The more traditional tree with decorations and baubles that has been collected over the years and even some of my grannies will be on there too. The tree in ...

Even the smallest spaces can look beautiful

Today I wanted to talk to you about using every inch of space in your home. This little nook under the stairs was possibly going to have a beautiful chair in it but with limited storage in the kitchen/diner, I decided to put the drawers in here to house all my stuff that had no home until now. The space underneath allows me to store a little more too. Lights @creativecables.uk Artwork @lindsaymaddenart...

Gallery wall

I get a lot of questions about my gallery wall. People ask where I get the artwork from and it quickly becomes a conversation piece as I then remind myself of all the places we have visited as well as favourite films we have watched or music we love. Now then my number one tip is to feature pieces of all different sizes as this makes it more interesting and remember it's your wall you have to enjoy it so mix it up I say. another question is Do I use command strips or nails? Well ladies and gentl...
